Writing for the Website

Checklist for publishing a blog post

Pre-publish checklist:

  • Spell & grammar check
  • Check to make sure American-English is used
  • Does the post clearly communicate what you want to say?
  • Is it as long as it needs to be and no longer? Anything words/sentences you can remove?
  • Does the post have a summary (introtext)?
  • Can the resource alias be shortened?
  • Do all the links work?

Post-publish checklist:

  • Share post on Facebook
  • Share post on Twitter
  • Share post on Twitter 12 hours later

Publishing a release

There are 3 kinds of releases:

  • Major releases (such as v1 to v2) which include breaking changes
  • Minor releases (such as v1.0 to v1.1) which include new features
  • Patch releases (such as v1.0.0 to v1.0.1) which include bug fixes

Major and minor releases usually require blog posts (see above checklist). Patch releases just require a forum post and a link from Twitter/Facebook.

Images

Use JPEG for photos. If an image has less than 256 colours and no transparency, use PNG8. Always run any images through a tool such as ImageOptim.
